Who needs strawberries, anyway?

Hello Reader!

Yesterday, I went to the grocery store - it was chaos.

The entire world decided to go to that grocery store, at that exact time. You may have been there. If so, and you are now reading this email, congratulations on your survival. You are one of the strong ones.

I fought for, and lost, the last package of strawberries to a frantic mother of two recalcitrant toddlers. (They looked slightly overripe anyway - the strawberries, that is, not the toddlers.)

As the pre-holiday rush ramps up, it is easy to become misanthropic, side-eyeing every other shopper while not-so-subtly racing through the produce section.

It’s an earnest mistake: one often made during this time of year.

What do they say? “Can’t see the forest for the trees?” Or something like that…

A sanguine pause to remind myself why - and who - I am even shopping for in the first place, can go a long way, even when faced with crowds and missed strawberries.

After all, I like strawberries a lot, but most toddlers love strawberries. It’s best if they enjoy them. They just need to do it soon; those berries won’t last long.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

To celebrate, here’s a super tough SAT vocabulary question. Please use these vocab words while stuck in traffic or smothering your turkey in gravy!

Tip: If you are struggling with this one, do a “vibe check” on the answer choices. Should the word that fills in the blank have good vibes or bad vibes? That should at least help you narrow it down.

Let me know how you did!

Your SAT teammate,

- Kate

PS - The answer is A. sanguine! Send a quick email back, and let me know if you got it or not!

By now, you've had a full 48 hours to sit with your teen's March SAT score. And that’s usually when families do one of two things: (1) Decide to “wait and see”(2) Decide - now - to do something different for next time Here’s what I see... Every. Single. Year. The students who wait until summer feel rushed, stressed, and overwhelmed. Why? Well, once summer hits, your focus shifts to college visits, essays, and apps. Add SAT prep on top of all that and it adds up fast. June SAT prep doesn’t...

Here are some great SAT words to use with the kids this week: A. hypothesis B. affinity C. anomaly D. corroboration There is a hypothesis among parents about their teenagers…. A teenager with a natural affinity for ignoring their parents' advice turns out to be no anomaly, as evidenced by the corroboration of exasperated parents nationwide who find their SAT vocabulary suggestions met with dramatic eye-rolls. That said, let's keep trying to use with words with our kids! Just for fun, let's...

Does your teenager know these words? (I came across these answer choices on an SAT question.) Maybe your kid is totally familiar with these four words. In that case, it would be impractical to force your kid to make them into vocabulary flash cards. In fact, that may cause a fight. The only way to find out if your kid knows these words is to try them out in front of your teen. Perhaps an innocuous comment at dinner tonight could turn into a happy vocabulary moment. There is no need to be...
